90 45 Tee

Skill Set: Hitting

Difficulty Level: Hard

Number of Athletes and Coaches: 1-2 athletes and 1 coach, or 2 athletes as partners

Average Time to Complete: 5 minutes

Equipment Required: Tee, baseballs, net or screen to hit into

Goal: Rotate the front shoulder and drive the ball back up the middle

Description of the Drill:

  • Hitter progresses through three stages using a tee
  • Tee set up in front of the middle of the plate
  • Stage 1: Hitter stands open at a 90 degree angle to the tee 
    • Focus is on keeping the front shoulder closed, not flying open
    • When working at the 90 and 45 degree angle feet are shoulder width and drill is completed without a stride
  • Stage 2: Hitter stands at a 45 degree angle
  • Stage 3: Hitter progress to standard batting stance
  • This drill is great for hitters that need help loading into their back hip or that fly open with their front shoulder
  • Hitter should perform 5 reps at each stage before moving to the next stage

Add Difficulty:

  • To add a degree of difficulty, perform the same drill using front toss
